Jonathan Greenard has his Eagles jersey number, and it's a return to where it all started.

The Eagles' new $100 million edge rusher will wear No. 52 in Philadelphia - the same number he wore when his NFL career began with the Houston Texans.

A Number With Meaning

Greenard wore No. 58 during his time with the Minnesota Vikings, but he wanted to get back to his roots. On Chris Long's podcast, Greenard mentioned he was looking for "somewhere in the 50s."

Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, another new Eagles edge rusher, originally had No. 52 but switched to No. 57 to accommodate Greenard. A classy move between teammates.

The Investment

The Eagles invested heavily in Greenard, giving him a four-year, $100 million contract extension as part of the trade from Minnesota. Philadelphia is betting big on the pass rusher to provide the explosiveness this defense craves.

Number 52 in Eagles History

The most recent Eagle to wear 52 was Za'Darius Smith, who retired mid-season last year. The number has been worn by respected players like Dave Lloyd and Barry Gardner over the years.

Now it belongs to Greenard, who'll be tasked with terrorizing NFC East quarterbacks for the foreseeable future.
