Jalen Hurts has a chance to make Philadelphia Eagles history in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.
An Undefeated Opening Day Record
Hurts is currently 5-0 in season openers during his NFL career, making him the only quarterback in league history to start at least five openers without a loss. The only other active QB to start at least three openers without a loss is Brock Purdy, who is 3-0.
Hurts is tied with Donovan McNabb, Randall Cunningham, and Ron Jaworski for the most opening-day wins in Eagles history. A victory over Washington on September 13 would make him the first Eagles quarterback ever to win six season openers.
Eagles Dominance in Week 1
The Eagles as a team have won five straight openers, their longest streak since winning six in a row from 1942 through 1947. Philadelphia is 15-3 in their last 18 season openers, the best record in the NFL over that span. No other team has more than 12 opening-day wins since 2008.
September Success
Hurts owns a career 13-5-1 record in September games. The Eagles went 4-0 to start the 2022, 2023, and 2025 seasons with Hurts under center.
With the Commanders and Titans on the schedule first, Philadelphia could realistically start 2-0 before their Monday Night Football showdown against the Bears in Week 3. If they handle business against Chicago, the Eagles could be 3-0 heading into October.
