With A.J. Brown's Eagles tenure coming to a close, the organization has full confidence that DeVonta Smith is ready to become the focal point of Philadelphia's passing attack.

The general belief within the organization is that Smith is ready to be the alpha receiver on the team and one of the best in the NFL. Those around the team say he is wired for that challenge and will embrace the opportunity.

Proven Production

Smith has already shown he can produce at an elite level, recording over 1,000 receiving yards in the 2025 season. He and Brown became the only Eagles wide receiver duo to produce 1,000+ receiving yards each in the same season.

Present at Workouts

While Brown has been notably absent from Jalen Hurts' offseason throwing sessions, Smith has been there working with his quarterback. Hurts has been hosting workouts that also include new veteran Elijah Moore and other receivers preparing for Sean Mannion's new offensive system.

New System Benefits

The new offense will feature more under center and play-action than in past years, which should benefit Smith's ability to get open downfield. With the addition of first-round pick Makai Lemon and the trade for Dontayvion Wicks, the Eagles have built depth around their new WR1.

Smith's quiet confidence and relentless work ethic have always been hallmarks of his game. Now, he gets the opportunity to prove he can carry a passing attack.
